CTET 2026 September Exam Pattern & Procedure

Mode: Offline pen-paper. OMR Filling.

Papers: Two separate papers:

Paper I – for teaching Classes I to V (Primary Stage)

Paper II – for teaching Classes VI to VIII (Elementary Stage)

Qualifying both: Candidates aiming for Classes I–VIII must appear for both papers.

Question type: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), each carrying 1 mark.

Negative marking: None.

Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes (150 minutes) per paper.

Total questions: 150 per paper.

Total marks: 150 per paper.

Nature & Standard of Questions

Child Development & Pedagogy: Educational psychology of teaching-learning at ages 6–11, inclusive education, learning and the learner.

Language I & II: Proficiency, grammar, pedagogy of language development. Language I is the medium of instruction; Language II can be any chosen from the CBSE list (two distinct languages).

Mathematics & EVS: Content + pedagogical issues, as per NCERT syllabus of Classes I–V. Focus on concepts, problem-solving, and teaching methods.

Crucial note: The candidate must choose one section between (A) Maths & Science or (B) Social Science while filling the form. The 60 questions are evenly split:

Maths & Science: 30 Mathematics + 30 Science

Social Science: 30 History & Geography + 30 Political Science & Economics (some variations exist; essentially 60 covering all SST components of classes VI-VIII)
Child Development & Pedagogy here focuses on the upper primary child (age 11–14). Language sections remain similar, but the pedagogy questions are tuned to the elementary stage.
